Mississippi currently uses a voting system that has a papertrail, however state law does not require this. We need to pass a law requiring a voter-verified papertrail, so that this cannot be changed in the future without being permitted by the General Assembly. We MUST also pass a mandatory random audit that compares the machine tally to a hand-count of the paper records. Without this step, the machines may have altered the vote totals due to a programming error or intentional fraud, and we would never know about it. By just auditing a small random percent of the precincts, we can be almost certain that the election results are accurate. This will be a huge step in the right direction.
